New Camera

This year is dissertation year, and I have been thinking about my dissertation and what I want it to be. I’ve been playing about with taking pictures on my phone for some time, but due to my overall shit financial situation (ok, yes, I spend it all on synths) I’ve never actually bought a digital camera.

Anyway, as a Part Time stduent I get a £500 loan for study costs, and with some of this I have bought myself a little Fuji A800 Digital compact. I’m slightly overwhelmed by all the settings on this thing, but yesterday I took this for a little walk down towards Kirkstall.

I have to say, Wow! What this does, over and above my phone is just epic, and I think this photography may become a thing. I’ve always loved art, but never spent the time to gain the technical skills, but photography is bringing out the artist in me again.

These are my shots from the walk.

I started up in Hyde Park and down towars Cardigan Road. It was interessting to peer through into the old Library and Glass Works, both now in a bit of a state. I’ve been inside the glassworks once, but sadly have no photos as this was quite some time ago.

I then went down towards Redcote Lane and through the substation. The original Kirstall Power Station was demolished n the 70s, but the substation remains. What is quite wierd is you can actually sense the electricty, both something in the air and an incessent hum. I really liked the geometries of the transformers and connectors.

The final shot is where the Railway line crosses over the canal shortly after Redcoate Lane. Really pleased with the reflections on this one.
