Witherslack Hall

We all know I do love a good bit of railway action, and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway can be quite a regular haunt. I am much more into diesels, but I love a steam train as much as anyone.

It was, however, the other half who decided we would go to the Steam Gala, largely because the name of one of the star locomotives, 6990 Witherslack Hall amused her.

It is indeed a fine locomotive, and especially riding in the Blackpool Club Car built in 1912 for the exclusive use of businessmen commuting between Blackpool and Manchester.

We started with a bacon buttie and watching the action at Keighley.

We did a round trip and then spent some time in the Vintage Carriages Trust museum at Ingrow, which is always worth looking at. I’d love to spend more time (and money) in the shop some time. It was nice to see Ironclad in steam in the yard and get a good shot of 41241 leaving.

Of course, some shopping, and lunch in Haworth was required. The weather, sadly, was not brilliant, though we managed a bit of sun. We rode about for a bit more, but eventually got tired and cold. However, it was worth the trip.
