Brusho

I found this amazing stuff via Fred Aldous, when I was researching things I could spend a lovely £100 Voucher on.

Brusho Crystal Colour is a powdered ink pigment which coems in a number of colours – and (especially as it is incredibly cheap) it is quite something. It costs less than £3 for a 15g pot – which may not sound like much, but it goes a very long way. I bought a set of 12 including: Lemon, Yellow, Scarlett, Brilliant Red, Purple, Ultramarine, Leaf Green, Emrrald Green, Turqouise, Dark brown and Black – pretty much a basic 12 colour pallete with warms and cools of the primaries and greens.

Brusho Crystal Colour has a couple of interesting properties. Firstly the colours are all mixed pigments which means if you use them in certain ways you can get some very wild effects. Secondly, yoou can use bleach to totally lift the colour back to white for some interesting techniques.

It’s recomended to pierce a hole in the lid and sprinkle, or (as I realised when I opened one) it is very insidious and gets everywhere!

You can mix it with water to make an ink, PVA to make an acrylic, or sprinkle it and wet it. Either sprinkled on wet paper, or on dry paper and then wet with a spray.

These are my two first experiments.

This lavender was inspired by a tutorial I found on You Tube, experimenting with splashing the pigment, then drawing the colour to create lines, and bleach technique for the flowers.

The second image was an attempt at something more complex. I used the bleach technique to white out areas for the detail.

This is certainly something I will be playing with some more!
