Meanwood in Autumn

Meanwood in Autumn

Reading Time: 2 minutes Sometimes we forget that there are many beautiful things to see (and shoot) right on our own doorsteps. I walk round meanwood quite a lot, but sometime neglect to spend a moment capturing the beauty of the place. Here’s just a few autumnal pictures

Carnival 2019

Carnival 2019

Reading Time: 3 minutes Once again, we have been to the annual Leeds West Indian Carnival. I wax lyrical about this each year, so I am njot really going to rattle on and just leave this set of images to enjoy.

Winter Snow and Lights

Winter Snow and Lights

Reading Time: 2 minutes So on the eve of the new year, we have been treated with a little bit of proper winter. Doubtless we’ll end up having a pretty shit spring and I will eat those words, but actually having some snow and the chance to have a

Light Night and the Moon

Light Night and the Moon

Reading Time: 2 minutes …the main attraction (for me at least) this year was Luke Jerram’s “Museum of the Moon” – a 7 metre diameter accurately mapped spherical installation of The Moon, suspended over Leeds Dock…

Carnival Time Again

Carnival Time Again

Reading Time: 4 minutes Leeds West Indian Carnival is the oldest and one of the biggest West Indian carnival events in Britain today. Started in 1967 by Arthur France, and a group of Caribbean strengths in Leeds, it is now in it’s 50th year, and what an event it is!

Meanwood Nature

The main band stage is relatively understated, with feelgood music of a generally rocky nature. The main area of stalls and food is immense, with easily over 100 different stalls, mostly of a very community nature – tombolas, tat, plants, books and so on.

Kirkstall Festival

Kirkstall Festival

Reading Time: 2 minutes Another of the big summer events in Leeds takes place in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey – Kirkstall Festival has been running in Leeds for 37 years now, and attracts over 25,000 people.  It has grown steadily, and has a good formula, with a large

Festival on the Ridge

Festival on the Ridge

Reading Time: 2 minutes Leeds has so many little pockets of community action and events, for those in the know… One of these is the annual Woodhouse Ridge Festival, taking place early July each year. This is a wonderful example of grassroots community in action. Woodhouse Ridge is an area of

Light Space Leeds Opening Party

Light Space Leeds Opening Party

Reading Time: 4 minutes So, I went to a little bit of a shindig last night. Felicity Hoy, with whom I did a bit of collaboration on some flyers a couple (or maybe more) years ago and who is doing great things in Sheffield has been involved with a couple

Freightliners

Freightliners

Reading Time: 2 minutes I am not sure where this small obsession with Freightliners came from. I blame my son, and also they are very smartly liveried. If you like them we are lucky to have the maintanance depot in Leeds out on the Hallam Line to Wakefield Westgate
