Kippford and Rockcliffe

It’s rarer at the moment that I have been able to get out to intereting places and have some time to actually focus on photography recently, but I recently got the chance on a flying visit (for family affairs) to Kippford in Kirkcudbrightshire. This is a tiny little village on the Urr Estury of around 140 inhabitants, 2 pubs, a small Cafe (shortly due to close) and an RNLI Lifeboat station and giftshop.

It’ a truly beautiful place, very quiet (though quite a few tourists floating about), though it has some of most expensive property prices in Dumfries and Galloway.

Rockliffe is an even smaller village, connected by footpath to Kippford, with not much more than an ice-cream van and a public toilet, though the beach can get very busy.

The thing that amazed me most were the shell beaches. Though Rocliffe is mud and rocks, all along the estuary are small beaches of more cockle shells than you could imagine.

It was also nice to see avocets, and sandpipers and particularly to hear the latter calling into the evening.
