Black and White Gig Shots
I’ve used monochrome conversions for gig shots on a couple of occasions, often when the lights are poor, as it can give a moody and timless effect, like an old black and white zine.
Ilford produce a black and white film – Delta 3200, which with extended deveopment times will function at up to ISO 3200 – the limit of my Canon 1000D and I thought I’d give this a go at Hammerfest. I actually used the 1000D to meter (as this was quite hard in the low light) and then set a manual exposure on the Praktica TL-5B.
I quite like these, for their grainy feel, though they have struggled a bit with contrast, as the lighting is quite extreme in range.
