Zygmunt Bauman

I am not really, so I like to say, a man for having heroes. However, in a very academic manner, one person for whom I have a lot of respect is Emiritus Professor Zygmunt Bauman.

The School of Sociology has just run a conference to open the Bauman Institute and (apparently, as his opening gambit, only agreeing because an internet “when will you die” game told him he would pass away before having to attend) he delivered the final session. Unable to attend the conference due to work, I did at least manage to sneak in to this, and even enjoyed a brief chat and a cigarette with the man outside.
