Took a silly lens to London, and shot a few Squiggles
I’ve just received a quite cool fisheye adapter which screws onto the front of my kit lens. Fisheye lenses tend to be those with a focal length of less than about 14mm (full frame) and come in two types – circular (which create a circular image) and rectilinear (which ill the frame), and can have up to 180° field of view. They are ridiculously expensive.
This adapter is basically an extension lens that changes the optical system, to create a shorter focal length (optics is spooky, and the focal length may bear no resemblance to the physical length of the optical system)
It’s quite fun. I’ve been to London again and took it with me. My idea was that this would be really fun on the London Underground
I started with a few on Leeds Station.
Of course, the other benefit of such a wide angle is you can fit a heck of a lot in, as in these shots round and about Tower Bridge.
After these I wandered down round Westminster and into St James’s Park, and spent a bit of time chansing squirrels, with a bit more success than I have previously. I also witnessed the somewhat gruesome spectable of one of the pelicans eating a pigeon – but sadly was not quick enough off the mark to catch that on camera.
I got some quite good flower shots as well.
The main idea of shooting on The Underground had moderate success, though affected by lack of light. If I get a chance I’d like to play with this concept some more.
