Watercolour Landscapes: St Aidan’s, Rounday, Meanwood

And some more…

I’ve really been beavering away with the watercolours this last couple of weeks.

This was a bit of a quick experiment – actually the fourth of a set of quick experients. The original image was posted on the a photography group. This is St Aidans in the early morning mist – the landscape faded to almost monochromatic layers.

The paper is Nucasso Cold Pressed paper – this was an Amazon find and is quite interesting as the texture is very regular, almost remeniscent of canvas.

The next painting comes from a photograph I took a good 15 years ago. This stump was in Waterloo Lake in Roundhay Park, I am not sure how the photo ended up as it did with the almost pink water, but it made a very calm image.

The final painting is from another photograph I took a similar time ago. This rock formation is in Meanwood Park, just on the edge of the beer garden of The Myrtle pub – one of the hidden treasures of Meanwood.

This took a while to get right – I almost gave up as I felt it was becoming overworked, but working a second layer on the trees and rocks gave the feel I was eventually aiming for.

I am struggling to get quite the right tone in an opaque green. Oxide of Chromium is a little metalic, and this is evidence in the bushes. But all in all I am pleased with this.
