En Plein Air
I have finally manage to do something I have been meaning to do for a while, and actually get out and do some painting outdoors, or “En Plein Air” as they like to call it.
I recently made a pocket set – a literally pocket sized watercolour pouch which along with the small Talens Art is Creation sketchbook I picked up in Norwich makes a great on the go set up.

I took this down to the lake in Meanwood the other evening.
I have been planning to make a watercolour of the smallholdings viewed from over the millpond, so this was a good chance to do an in location sketch.

I did a few more little sketches as well, until it got cold…

The next day we went out into Tetley Field – this being the location I have been meaning to get to. The weather was nice and the trees were lovely. This is the view of the North edge of the field…

I took out a bigger set this time, based round the Mungyo “Passion for Masterpieces” which I have found to be a nice travel set, as inexpensive colours go.

I was very taken by the colours. The photo does not really do them justice and I think this painting is one of my favourite sketchbook paintings for a while.

Here’s a few more, inspired buy the trees and nature in the field.

All in all a very productive experience. I need to actually beat the slight apathy and do this more. And of course the ultimate aim is to produce finished work as well.
I expanded the treeline idea to this peice later on.
